ELTON John's eagerly anticipated show at Blackburn Rovers Ewood Park ground in June will go ahead.

The singing superstar has been forced to cancel a series of shows in the United States after spending two days in intensive care after suffering from a "potentially deadly" bacterial infection.

But an official statement released today has confirmed that the star's UK dates will continue as planned.

Elton is due to bring his band to Ewood Park on Saturday, June 10, as part of the Wonderful, Crazy Night tour.

The statement says: "During a recent, successful tour of South America, Elton contracted a harmful and unusual bacterial infection. He is now comfortably resting at home and is expected to make a full and complete recovery.

"Elton will be returning to his schedule of live performances starting in London at The Twickenham Stoop on Saturday, June 3 before performing in Derby, Birmingham, Leeds, Blackburn, Peterborough, Ipswich, Widnes and Airdrie in June as part of Wonderful Crazy Night Tour."

Elton said: "I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well."

He was released from hospital in the UK after spending two nights in intensive care followed by an extended stay in hospital.

"Infections of this nature are rare and potentially deadly," said a spokesman. "Thankfully, Elton's medical team identified this quickly and treated it successfully. He is expected to make a full and complete recovery."
