WEEKLY inspections of a community centre roof are set to take place.

The roof on The Barlow in Edgworth has been in a bad state of repair for a few years and at stages the building has had to be cordoned off due to the possibility of falling debris.

At the recent annual general meeting it was announced visual inspections were to take place on a weekly basis.

A spokesman for The Barlow said: “The roof continues to be a problem and emergency repairs were carried out reducing the water ingress. Weekly visual inspections will continue.”

The centre has recently lodged a bid for an initial Heritage Lottery Fund grant of more than £10,000 as trustees look to give the building a new lease of life.

If approved the cash will fund the consultancy and training needed to help the charity be successful when it comes to the main bidding process for around £2million.
