A COUNCILLOR has hit out at dog owners who have been hanging mess bags on a fence near a developing ecology site.

The fence has been put up by the Environment Agency while work is going on to transform Jacks Key Reservoir into a new centre for wildlife.

But Cllr John East, town council ward representative, has said people have been depositing dog bags all the way along it.

He said: “This is disgraceful anti-social behaviour and must be addressed.

“Dog owners are just discarding their canine deposits on the fence.

“I will be placing a notice up soon reminding dog owners of their responsibility to pick up their dog’s mess and take the contents home or put it in the nearest bin. It is unacceptable.”

Cllr East said he had seen around half a dozen bags there recently.

Work at the reservoir is expected to be completed next month.

One of the dams at the site has been taken out and drained while the other has been lowered and open channel has been cut through it.

The work was all required to reduce major flood risk.
