PUPILS from secondary schools across East Lancashire took part in a day of engineering activities and competitions at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre.

The yearly Enjoyneering event celebrates the variety of roles and skills within the advanced manufacturing and engineering industry.

The event, sponsored by KAMAN UK, saw 11 teams from Blessed Trinity RC College, All Saints Catholic High School, Our Lady and St John Catholic College, UTC and West Craven High School create balsa wood cars powered by air-propulsion.

Each team was given a set budget to buy enhancements for their cars and presented their design to judges before racing them against each other.

All Saints Catholic College were awarded first prize.

Head of Engineering Neil Burrows said: “Enjoyneering is one of our favourite times of the year, as it brings pupils to our Centre of Engineering Excellence to meet our outstanding tutors and really get excited about the possibilities in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering. It’s always great to see young people getting excited about Engineering and we hope that we’ve managed to spark some deeper interest in them, to consider a career in this fast-moving industry.”
