A quantity of cash and drugs, believed to be cracked cocaine, were recovered when officers raised the house in Elm Street.

An 18-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman from Burnley were both arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

They were released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Cllr Shah Hussain, Daneshouse ward representative, said residents had been worried about drug dealing in the area.

He said: “I have spoken to residents and this has been one of the main concerns they have raised with me.

“People need to be reporting these incidents to the police.

“I think the council needs to take some sort of action but it can only act based on crime figures so people need to keep reporting things.”

Cllr Hussain said he had been going around the ward speaking to neighbours and said there had been similar issues raised in Burns Street recently.

The arrests were made at around 8am on Wednesday after a Misuse of Drugs Act warrant was issued.

Cllr Mark Townsend, leader of Burnley Council, said: “We are aware these type of issues are going on.

“I am satisfied that the police are acting on it and I am pleased to see that these arrests were made.

“Hopefully it will make people refrain from engaging in these terrible offences.”
