STAFF from an engineering business in Darwen will be taking on a walking challenge to raise funds for charity.

WEC Group will be holding a five-mile walk through the town to in aid of Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research.

The cause supports research into childhood cancer.

Staff have named the event Ground to Tower Walk as they will be travelling from the home of AFC Darwen to the Jubilee Tower.

It will take place on Saturday, June 24.

Staff member Elouise Pemberton said: “This is a huge challenge for many of us who are not seasoned walkers and we would like to raise as much money as possible for Kidscan as it is a cause close to the company’s hearts.”

A target of £1,000 has been set on the group’s JustGiving page.

Staff will talk along the A666 and pass various landmarks associated with WEC including the Darwen Spitfire sculpture, which was created by apprentices from the company.

Kidscan was established in 2002 and looks to specifically support research into new and improved treatments for children with cancer.

WEC Group is based in Britannia House in Junction Street.
