Police believe it was a ‘targeted’ incident and have sought to reassure the public.

Emergency services were called to the semi-detached property, off Clough Road, at around 10.45pm on Tuesday.

Police arrived first to find a 33-year-old man suffering from knife wounds to his leg and chest.

A 29-year-old woman, at the same address, was found to have injuries to her hands, according to officers.

Paramedics were immediately alerted by investigators and the pair were taken to the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police believe three men had arrived at the property in an unidentified car earlier and had gone into the house, each armed with knives, to carry out the violence.

Det Insp Tim Brown, the senior investigating officer, said: “We believe that this was a targeted attack and that there is no immediate threat to the wider public in the area.

“If anyone has any information about the vehicle used or the incident itself, we would urge them to contact us on 101, quoting incident reference number 1598 of April 11.”

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed paramedics were called to the scene shortly after 10.45pm by police officers who were in attendance.

An ambulance later took the casualties to the Royal Blackburn Hospital after treatment was administered at the location, added the spokesman.

One onlooker, who asked not to be named, said: “I was watching from a window and I’ve never seen so many police.

“They were poking all round the area with torches, looking for something.”

Potential witnesses have been told they can also call the Crimestoppers hotline, in confidence, on 0800 55 111.
