TAXI drivers in the Ribble Valley are set to be surveyed on the question of rotating seats for disabled passengers.

Just seven out of the 52 licensed hackney carriage drivers in the borough have an ELAP seat, which rotates to allow people with disabilities to enter and leave vehicles.

But the borough’s licensing committee has been told one driver has asked for permission to remove the ELAP device, and fit an ordinary swivel seat.

And it has been suggested that all taxi drivers should be required to fit a swivel seat, to aid disabled customers.

Councillors are being asked to give their views when the licensing committee meets at the council chamber in Church Street, Clitheroe, on Tuesday, April 4.
