A MAN has suffered a fractured skull after being punched in a car park.

Detectives said the incident happened outside Farmfoods in Accrington at around 9pm on Monday.

The 25-year-old victim was punched twice in the head by a boy who is said to have been part of a group.

He suffered a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain.

He remains in hospital where police described his condition as “stable”.

The attacker is described as a white, around 16, of slim build, 5ft 7ins tall, with light brown hair. He was wearing a blue jacket.

Police are treating it as an unprovoked attack and have issued a witness appeal. They are keen to speak to anyone who saw a group of teenagers in the area at the time to come forward.

Plain clothed officers could be seen carrying out enquiries at surrounding businesses yesterday and police patrols are set to be stepped up in the area.

Detective Sergeant Melisa Kelly said: “We are investigating a serious assault. A 25-year-old man has suffered a significant head injury and is being treated in hospital.

“We want to appeal for any witnesses in the area at the time who may have seen a group of youths or the incident itself to come forward.”
