A DRINK driver who crashed into a stone trough outside a Darwen pub claimed he was not the driver.

Blackburn magistrates heard Ahad Mohammed pleaded not guilty to charges of driving with excess alcohol, without insurance and without due care and attention.

He changed his plea to guilty after police obtained his DNA from the driver’s air bag.

And the magistrates ordered him to pay £400 in costs to cover the costs of the extra investigations caused by his initial plea.

Mohammed, 21, of Beardwood Brow, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to all charges. He was fined £162 with £400 costs and £30 victim surcharge. He was banned from driving for 20 months.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said he denied being the driver but police found the keys to the car in his pocket and then obtained the DNA evidence from the airbag.
