A 17-YEAR-OLD boy was clocked doing 100mph in his mum's Mercedes on the M65 motorway just six days after he had passed his test.

Blackburn magistrates heard police first became aware of the boy driving at excessive speed through Clayton-le-Moors.

And the court was told he showed total disregard for other road users during the incident in the early hour of the morning.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and speeding on the motorway.

He was made subject to a referral order for three months, banned from driving for six months and ordered to re-take his driving test.

He was ordered to pay £85 costs and £15 victim surcharge.

Sentencing District Judge James Clarke said what he had heard described was either inexperience or showing off.

"You placed yourself, your passengers and other road users at significant risk."

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said police spotted the boy at 1.35 am on a night when it had been raining and the roads were described as wet and slippery.

He was travelling at speeds in excess of the limit and eventually joined the motorway from Dunkenhalgh Way.

"On the motorway he reached speeds up to 100mph," said Miss Allan. "He left at junction six following a last minute lurch from lane three to the slip road at high speed."

When he was eventually stopped on Burnley Road the boy said: "I'm in the wrong, it was unsafe."

Gareth Price, defending, said the consequences of his client's actions would be with him for a long time.

"When he gets his licence back he will have the problem of getting insurance," said Mr Price.

"His mother's car was fitted with a box by the insurance company to monitor the standard of his driving."
