Halliwell, 48, of Sowclough Road, Stacksteads, pleaded guilty to harassing Kay Helliwell and damaging a front door lock belonging to her.
He was fined £300 with £100 compensation, £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.
He was also made subject to a restraining order for 12 months with conditions not to contact Miss Helliwell, enter Newchurch Road where she lives or attend at either of the places where she works.
Enza Geldard, prosecuting, said the couple had been in a relationship for seven years but it ended by mutual consent in May 2016.
“The split was amicable but towards the end of last year she entered into a new relationship and his attitude changed,” said Mrs Geldard.
Halliwell started sending messages about the property in Newchurch Road on which there was a joint mortgage but then posted photographs of Miss Helliwell which were 'extremely derogatory'.
“She received a text from him saying she was in the pub where she works and when she went to work he was there and asked for the key to the house so he could collect some property,” said Mrs Geldard.
“She refused but when she got home she found the locks had been filled with Superglue."
Gareth Price, defending, said since the relationship broke down his client became isolated, lonely and had taken to drinking more than was good for him.
