AN investigation has been launched into a dog fouling problem in a park in Darwen.

Cllr Jane Oates said she has had numerous complaints from residents living near Woodlands Park about dog owners not cleaning up after their pets on walks.

The Labour councillor for Sudell said the problem had got so bad that some parents felt they could not let their children play out in the park.

A dog warden from Blackburn with Darwen Council is set to carry out an investigation and put notices up to remind people they can be fined £75 if they are caught.

Cllr Oates said: “I want to stress to residents that this is a big issue.

“I have had residents ringing me up about it quite a bit with one parent feeling like she couldn’t send her kids out.

“It’s a big fine that people can get at the moment and I do not want people falling into that trap.

“I would urge all dog owners to clean up after their pets it’s extremely important.”

The issue comes after signs were put up in the council parks in the town such as Bold Venture Park to remind people of the by-laws which include no dog fouling.
