PEOPLE have been told to ‘wait and see’ after a petition was set up to prevent a £2million sports hub be built on Higham Playing Fields.

Accrington Stanley Community Trust is working with Hyndburn Council to develop a plan for the site.

However Cllr Malcolm Pritchard, who represents the area on the council, has set up a petition against the work going ahead.

So far almost 250 people have signed the online campaign which looks to keep the fields ‘free for the public’.

However Cllr Paul Cox, who also represents the area, said people should wait for plans to be unveiled.

He said: “It’s very early stages yet, the plans haven’t even be finalised and released.

“My view is that it’s best to wait and see what happens with the consultation.

“It’s a £2million project, which would be a great investment in the area.”
