THE owner of a dog that was disturbing her neighbours by barking at night as been fined.

After complaints were made to Rossendale Council, Marie Ashworth from School Lane, Earby, was taken to court and pleaded guilty.

The hearing took place on February 17 and she was given an 18 month conditional discharge and must pay costs of £998 and £20 victim surcharge.

The council said she apologised to her neighbours and said two elderly dogs had been rehomed and one dog is now living inside the house.

Cllr Barbara Ashworth, portfolio holder for health, said: “Cases like this one really do highlight the importance of the night time call out service.

"Our officer was able to provide evidence to the court which resulted in a positive solution for the troubled neighbour.”

David Pierce, environmental health officer at the council, said: “It’s a great demonstration of partnership working across authorities and seeing it bring successful outcomes like this one is really pleasing to all officers who work on the service.”
