THE wife of a member of the 1966 England World Cup-winning squad has presented a cheque for £1,966 to Bowland High School.
Mrs Sandra Connelly, wife of the late John Connelly, presented the money to the Ribble Valley school’s PE department at a special assembly.
He was led by Anthony Keefe, assistant headteacher and curriculum leader for PE.
Mrs Connelly spoke at the assembly and brought with her one of her husband’s England caps and his world cup-winning medal.
The donation is from a Football Association grant called ‘66 for 66’.
Mrs Collelley chose the department for the support it has given her grandchildren.
The school plans to use the money to buy a system of software and equipment to improve the video analysis of pupils’ performance.
Mr Connelly played for Burnley, Manchester United, Blackburn and Bury.
His grandson Alex Wood left last year and is playing for Preston North End.
