FOR Fun Lovin’ Criminals the celebrations just keep on going.

Last year the band embarked on a major tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their album Come Find Yourself during which they played the whole album from start to finish.

On Monday, they return to Manchester with a date at the Albert Hall and, as founder member Brian ‘Fast’ Leiser admits, even the band don’t quite know what to expect.

“With the tour which began last year, we’d spent two years planning it, as we knew it would celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album,” he said. “With this tour, it’s all a bit more spontaneous, we haven’t really planned anything.

“But as long as people come out to the shows we will play our music and we’ll all have a great time.”

That approach pretty much sums up the band’s mantra throughout their career from their early days in New York to major hits such as Scooby Snacks and festival headline shows.

“We tend not to rehearse too much these days,” admitted Fast. “For this tour we have one day’s rehearsal but it’s amazing how we seem to have over 60 songs in our DNA now. We never need to rehearse songs like Scooby Snacks or Logo. It all comes back once you start to play.”

All three members of the band have very much found a second home in the UK - frontman Huey Morgan has built a successful second career as a DJ on BBC 6Music.

“After the first few years travelling overseas we realised that there is a lot of the world other than America," said Fast.

“For over 20 years we have been privileged to meet like-minded people and it’s amazing to have the UK as a second home.”

Fast also acknowledges how special it is for any band to survive for that length of time

“We have never had any regrets.” he said. “As a band we have never had those cliched phases. We are who we are on stage and we have always been that way.

“When we started, we didn’t think anyone outside New York would like our music.

“Looking back, it’s amazing how the first 10 years went in a flash then for the next 10 years we slowed down a bit and we’ve been trying to live life a bit now.

“It’s led us to a point where we can reflect and do things like deciding to play Come Find Yourself - it was really cool to do that. “

The band have been working on some new material and Fast was happy to get back into the studio.

“We are working on another record,” he said. “We got out the gate really quickly and did half of it in three days.

“We’ve not had new material in the studio for five years so at the end of the summer we were really itching to get in there for a few days. It was very productive and now we’re waiting to get back in there once the tour’s over.

“But we’re really looking forward to playing the Albert Hall. We’ve played the cathedral in Manchester which was a cool venue but our merch guy's from there and he says the Albert Hall is special.”
