USERS of popular tumble dryer brands have been urged to unplug ‘potentially dangerous’ machines.

Whirlpool, maker of Hotpoint, Indesit, Creda , Swan and Proline tumble dryers has changed its advice to the owners of millions of potentially dangerous machines.

They are now telling customers to unplug the appliances and stop using them until they are repaired.

Yesterday fire crews carrying out a home fire safety check for a 75-year-old in Blackburn discovered that one of these potentially dangerous dryers was still being used.

The occupier was unaware of the potential fire risk.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: “We believe that it is highly likely other affected dryers are still being used in the county by people unaware of the potential risk and urges resident to check to see if they have one of the affected dryers.”
