A 24-year-old woman suffered serious head injuries after a car crash in the Ribble Valley on Friday night.

The car she was driving rolled several times before stopping in a lay-by, police said.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses after the incident which happened on the A59 at around 9pm.

The woman was taken to Royal Preston Hospital. Her condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

A police spokesman said: "A silver VW Polo travelling in lane one of the two lane stretch from Sawley towards Clitheroe lost control after the Sawley Road junction.

"The car rolled several times before coming to rest in a lay-by.

"The female driver, a 24 year old woman, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Preston Hospital with serious head injuries. Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening at this time.

"Her family are being supported by specially trained officers."

Sgt Tracey Ward, of the Road Policing Unit, said: "This incident has left a young woman with serious injuries and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision to get in touch."
