A 20-YEAR-OLD man threatened his mother with a knife during a drink-fuelled row.

Blackburn magistrates heard the incident had proved a wake-up call for Liston Metcalf who now accepted he had an alcohol problem and was seeking help.

Metcalf, of Kings Drive, Padiham, pleaded guilty to assaulting Debra McCreary.

He was made subject to community supervision for 12 months with a six-month alcohol treatment requirement and 30 days’ rehabilitation. He was ordered to pay £85 costs.

Neil White, prosecuting, said Metcalf had gone home drunk and after making some food went upstairs to his room and started playing his music loudly.

He said mother and son started to argue and he eventually told his mum he could kill her.

“He picked up a knife and came towards her and said he could strangle her and kill her,” said Mr White.

“There was no actual contact but there was the threat of violence.”

Mark Davies, defending, said: “As he told the police he would never hurt his mum, he just wanted her to leave him alone.

“Mum is here to support her son and she wants him to come back home.”
