Tim Murdock, 51, from Blackburn, said the announcement came as a ‘complete shock’.

He said: “I would have thought the owners would have kept him on until the end of the season.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“What’s the point of him going now? It’s going to get the club into a heap of trouble.

“It’s hard to say which manager I would have to replace him. I wouldn’t mind Arsène Wenger but I don’t think he would come here even if he wasn’t at Arsenal at the end of the season.”

Simon McCormick, 23, of Preston New Road, Blackburn, said the manager was put in a difficult position from the start.

Lancashire Telegraph:

He said: “I think he did a good job, I think a lot of fans are more annoyed at the owners.

“They gave him hardly any money to play with and expected too much from him. Look where it got us.”

Wayne Bradley, 30, from Higher Croft, said: “I thought he was one of the best managers Blackburn Rovers had.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“He has had to deal with a lot of difficulties behind the scenes.

“My man would be Mick McCarthy.

“He’s got the right attitude and the fans would like him.”

Arron Spavin, 17, also from the town, said Owen Coyle was a ‘strange’ appointment back in June.

He said: “It just felt odd having an ex-Burnley manager in charge of Blackburn Rovers, a lot of fans didn’t like that.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“There’s a lot of managers that I would like to see take over, Ryan Giggs possibly or Tugay.”

Dean Clark, 21, from Roe Lee, agreed and said the former Turkish central midfielder should take over the reins.

He said: “I would love Tugay to come into the club, he’s loved by the fans and it would give him a good fighting chance to do something.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“It would bring in some positivity straight away.”

Tommy Cunningham, 25, from Little Harwood, said it was the wrong decision.

He said: “He should have been kept on until the end of the season.

“They’ve got a lot a games coming up now and the club needs to have a manager behind them.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“They should have done it in January if they were going to do it before the end.

“The current Wycombe Wanderers boss, Gareth Ainsworth, should be the next manager.”
