BLACKBURN Rovers legends Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton have had their say on Twitter after the club parted ways with boss Owen Coyle.

The former strikers led Rovers to Premiership glory in 1995 and have both fired social media warnings to owners Venky's.

Sutton posted: "What an absolute mess the club is in! It would big a bigger help if a few others left as well!"

Shearer followed: "Come on #Venkys. @Rovers really matters to people, to the fans, to the community, to me. Start showing it some respect before it's too late!"

Speaking on BBC Radio Lancashire, Sutton added: "I can't say that I'm overly surprised by the decision.

"The issue isn't with the manager though, it's with the owners, that's the biggest issue.

"They have been a disgrace and the fact they don't communicate with the fans is an issue.

"They have sold the club's best players, they have got good money for them, and not replaced them which is an unbelievable situation.

"They have invested £250,000 in the last two transfer windows - so the supporters are quite right to think 'what's going on?'"

Assistant manager Sandy Stewart, first team coach John Henry and goalkeeping coach Phil Hughes have also left the club.

A statement released by Rovers read: “The decision has been taken in order to give the club the best possible chance of climbing to a position of safety in the Championship in the remaining 15 games, which starts with the big trip to Burton Albion on Friday night.

“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Owen and his staff for all their efforts this season and we wish them well for the future.

“The search for a new manager will begin with immediate effect.”

Rovers are currently second bottom of the Championship, three points from safety with 15 games remaining.
