The incident, the second rescue the team has carried out in the area in a week, has prompted police to warn walkers and runners of the dangers of the fast-changing weather conditions on Pendle Hill.

PC Nigel Keates also praised the work of the rescue team and encouraged anyone in trouble on remote moorland to always contact the emergency services rather than put their lives at risk.

PC Keates said: “I would urge people to check the weather reports before they go up on Pendle Hill.

“But the weather conditions up there can change so quickly so I would urge walkers to react immediately and not put their own lives at risk.

“As demonstrated by this incident the mountain rescue volunteers do a fantastic job is locating and rescuing people and I would urge anyone in trouble to always to request help.”
