A TRAIN guard has been left with facial injuries after being attacked by two men.

The attack led to a rail service being terminated and severe delays on the line.

The incident happened as the train was travelling from Clitheroe to Manchester Victoria on Saturday evening.

A British Transport Police spokesman, said: "Officers were called to Bromley Cross rail station following reports of a person assaulted.

"The incident happened on Saturday, February 18 on the platform.

"The call came into police at 5.50pm.

"The guard was attacked by two men.

"The man suffered bruising and a cut to his lip."

Due to the attack the service was terminated at Bolton and, because of the knock-on effect, trains in the direction of Clitheroe were stopped for a around two hours.

Officers are investigating the incident.
