EMERGENCY services were called out to Darwen over fears a hot air balloon had crashed.

Police, paramedics and the air ambulance were called to an area near to Jubilee Tower over fears a balloon had gone down around 1pm this afternoon.

The balloon was eventually located on Darwen Moors by Sniddle Hill. Nobody was injured and a police spokesman said the balloon had not got into any difficulty.

The police spokesman said: "Police were called at shortly before 1pm today (Friday, February 17th) to a report that a hot air balloon had crashed near to Jubilee Tower at Darwen.

"The balloon was safely located on Darwen Moors by Sniddle Hill and both the pilot and passenger were unhurt. Emergency services have withdrawn from the area."
