THE next guest artist at The Barlow in Edgworth tomorrow night will be the phenomenal Bernard Wrigley.

He is a vastly talented singer, guitarist and concertina player. and will be supported by women’s choir, Kadenza from Horwich.

Tonight at Bury Met is a unique show celebrating the triumphs, tragedy, humour and hard times of North-East England’s coal mining tradition.

The Pitmen Poets features ex-Lindisfarne singer and writer Billy Mitchell, songman from West End musical Warhorse, Bob Fox, leading exponent of Tyneside song Benny Graham, and songwriter Jez Lowe, four of the North East’s leading champions of its musical heritage.

Then tomorrow night, the Met will be hosting Leveret, an exciting collaboration between three of England’s finest musicians. Andy Cutting, Sam Sweeney and Rob Harbron.

Each are regarded as masters of their instruments and are involved in numerous collaborations with a huge range of artists.

Together their performances combine consummate musicianship, compelling delivery and captivating spontaneity.

In another collaboration, Michael McGoldrick, John McCusker and John Doyle, three members of the BBC acclaimed Transatlantic Sessions, will be at The Met next Friday.

In 2014, Show of Hands acclaimed frontman Steve Knightley set out on a mission to play 150 village halls and ‘untapped’ grassroots community venues.

His hugely successful ‘Grow Your Own Gig’ tour saw him performing at a bedrock of intimate rural venues, drawing on his treasure trove of songs of the English countryside.

Then in 2015 he turned his attention from the land to the sea for his ‘All At Sea’ tour of maritime venues - all within sight and sound of the tide. On Friday, March 3, he will be singing songs from both albums inspired by the tours at the Met..

The redoubtable Saggy Bottom Girls host their Singers’ Night at the Masons’ Arms in Egerton on Wednesday, March 8.

Malpractice host a singers’ night at The Irwell Works Brewery in Ramsbottom on Wednesday. The following week, the guest will be Bury singer songwriter Stuart Warburton.
