TWO men have been charged after a 76-year-old woman was allegedly robbed at knifepoint days after a robbery at a newsagent in the same street.

Police said at around 6.10am on Saturday the 76-year-old woman had her handbag stolen in Whalley New Road.

While on February 3 Roe Lee Newsagent newsagents was robbed.

Detectives said two men have been arrested in connection with both incidents.

Craig Cotton, 32, of Peridot Close, Blackburn, was charged with two offences of robbery and three offences of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

Conway Butler, 47, of Gretna Walk, Blackburn, was charged with robbery. This related to the incident on February 3.

Both were remanded to appear at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
