FARMERS have been given a welcome surprise after a rare breed of sheep gave birth against the odds.

The Procter family run Marlfield Farm in Earby which is home to ‘Lambwatch’, an online streaming of sheep on the site.

The cameras recently captured the birth of a lamb from an unlikely partnership, a common Suffolk sheep and the rare breed of Boreray.

Daniel Procter, 32, who runs the farm, said that it wasn’t expected the small Boreray sheep, Jacob, would be able to breed.

He said: “Lambs aren’t usually born in January, so we’re hoping that it means we are going to be in for a good year.

“The live stream just started as a bit of fun and a way to keep an eye on the animals outside in the winter but viewers are always quite excited to see the new born lambs.”

The Boreray sheep is the rarest sheep found in the country and has been registered endangered.

Mr Procter brought the sheep to the farm last year after becoming more involved in the running of the site two years ago.

The farm has been in the Procter family for more than 100 years and has been home to the Lambwatch web camera since 2008.

More cameras were added to the site last year and the live stream attracts around 400 viewers a day.
