A BANNED driver who crashed into a car containing a father and two young children in Accrington, while fleeing from a domestic disturbance, has been jailed for 12 months.

Terrified passengers of Amir Hussain, 34, had been pleading with him to slow down before the collision involving his Audi TT, Burnley Crown Court was told.

Hussain’s car smashed into the rear bumper of a Vauxhall while trying to overtake a driver, who had his four-year-old son and 13-week-old daughter inside, the court heard.

Prosecutor Rachel Woods said the children were not hurt as a result of the incident but were left crying and shaken after the impact.

Hussain drove off after the crash and pulled over shortly afterwards, telling two women inside the vehicle that they would have to call a taxi to get home, she added.

He was going to abandon the car and claim it had been stolen. But his girlfriend’s father had arrived at the scene of the earlier crash and confirmed he had been behind the wheel, the court heard.

Hussain, of Heywood Street, Cheetham Hill, Manchester, had been convicted of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and failing to stop after an accident. He was banned from driving again for 18 months by Judge Andrew Woolman.

Miss Woods said the incident began when Hussain left a house party in Accrington with two young women, so they could buy some more food and drink.

He took one of the women’s vehicles, an Audi TT, but said he would need to visit his partner nearby. The young women were left waiting in the car until Hussain returned 10 minutes later, appearing to be agitated and dishevelled.

The court heard he appeared to be concerned he was being followed by a silver Mercedes car, apparently being driven by his girlfriend.

Hussain was driving at 60mph in a built-up area and the two passengers urged him to slow down, before he collided with the Vauxhall.

The court heard that the defendant was disqualified from driving for 15 months after being convicted of driving with excess alcohol in 2016.

He accepted he had been in a fight with his girlfriend and his later driving was dangerous.
