A THIRD tenant has started moving into Blackburn Cathedral Quarter’s flagship office block.

Organic Insurance’s signage is now clearly visible on the third floor of the building as it prepares to transfer more than 20 staff from its Trident Park base in Whitebirk.

The move follows Capita occupying the first floor with 70 employees last month and Govnet Communications taking half the second floor in August last year for 20 staff.

Blackburn with Darwen Council is now in the final stages of signing a contract to let the fifth floor of the block, known as One Cathedral Square, and in advanced negotiations with a possible tenant for the fourth.

The news comes as Govnet prepares to hold an opening party at Cafe Northcote on Thursday hosted by former government minister Lord Foulkes. Blackburn with Darwen Council regeneration boss Cllr Phil Riley said: “We are delighted at Organic Insurance moving in with more than 20 staff.

“They are the sort of jobs our town centre needs and financial services is a sector where Blackburn with Darwen is not traditionally strong.

“We are in the final legal stages of letting the fifth floor and in advanced negotiations with a tenant for the fourth.

“We are hopeful to have the whole office block full and let by the summer.”

Tony Duckworth, president of Blackburn and District Chamber of Commerce, said: “This is wonderful news.

“It seems that the borough council’s hopes for this office block are being fulfilled.”

A spokesman for Organic Insurance has confirmed the move but declined to comment further.

The firm is a sponsorship partner of Blackburn Rovers and Read Cricket Club and supports local community projects.

It offers a full portfolio of business and personal insurance products.

The company is led by directors Chris Knight, Duncan Bennett and Chris Ridehalgh.
