A NELSON-based sports nutrition company has teamed up with British Cycling to help them compete on the world’s stage.

Science in Sport (SiS) will help create a tailored nutritional plan to fuel Great Britain’s cycling team.

The business will work with the athletes for the next four years in preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics.

The company, based at the Innovation Centre in Churchill Way, manufactures a variety of sports recovery foods such as energy bars, gels and protein powder.

Stephen Moon, SiS’s chief executive, said he was proud to be fuelling the cycling team in the build up to the next olympics.

He said: “We have a huge responsibility and opportunity as the official sports nutrition supplier to British Cycling to continue our innovation lead in the market and fuel the Great Britain Cycling Team to even more Olympic and Paralympic success.”

Since it was established in 1992, the business has worked with a variety of Olympian and world champion athletes, including Sir Chris Hoy and Mark Cavendish.

It also supplies heptathlon athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Team Sky, USA Cycling and Liverpool Football Club. Sir Hoy said: “As a professional athlete you need to trust every element of your training, including your sports nutrition, and SiS are experts in banned substance testing through its world-leading informed sport programme.

“Quality is key, and the ethos to strive for best in class between both British Cycling and SiS makes for a great partnership at the start of this Olympic cycle.”

Jamie Obank, British Cycling’s chief operating officer, said having the business on board was excellent news.

He said: “This new link-up will benefit the Great Britain Cycling Team. It will give our elite riders the opportunity to work alongside SiS to tailor their own nutritional strategies and also British Cycling members, who will receive exclusive benefits themselves.
