SPOT checks on were being made on taxi and van drivers outside Blackburn railway station by police, immigration officials and Blackburn with Darwen Council and officers.
Drivers were being checked in The Boulevard at around 7pm to make sure their vehicles were in safe working order and properly insured.
As well as checking cars and licenses, immigration credentials were being looked at.
PC Antony Blezard said the spot checks were to make sure drivers were obeying the rules.
He said: "We want to make sure people are as safe as they possibly can be and these checks help us do that.
"As well as the immigration unit being here, we've got the council looking at the cars conditions.
"We're also making sure drivers are following the road markings, which include the bus lanes and parking restrictions."
