Czarnowusy, of Coronation Road, Brierfield, pleaded guilty to assaulting Anna Kuc.

He was sentenced to eight weeks in prison suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay £115 victim surcharge and £85 victim surcharge.

Charlotte Crane, prosecuting, said both parties had been drinking and when a dispute started he was unable to control his aggression. She suffered a black eye, cut to her shoulder and bruising to her lower leg.

Keith Rennison, defending, said his client accepted the offence was aggravated by the fact he had a previous conviction for a similar matter.

“There are issues in the relationship and these are exacerbated by the misuse of alcohol,” said Mr Rennison.

“When he drinks problems tend to arise.”
