FORECASTERS said snow was on the way – and they were right, eventually!

The Met Office have now predicted that snow showers – including periods of heavy snow showers – will continue tonight.

This follows heavy snow in some parts of Lancashire today - so heavy Grane Road was forced to close this afternoon.

Lancashire Telegraph:

A severe weather warning remains in place for Lancashire, with higher ground having seen more sleet than elsewhere.

The latest from the Met Office for Lancashire is that there will be light snow showers, with brief periods of heavy snow showers from 6pm until midnight tonight, Thursday January 12.

Forecasters also predict that a second period of snowfall will arrive over Lancashire after 10pm on Friday night.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Snow showers, initially affecting Northern Ireland and southwest Scotland, will progressively extend southeast to affect the rest of the warning areas during Thursday.

“There is the potential for disruption to transport networks with longer journey times. Icy stretches on untreated roads and pavements are also possible.”

The Met Office chief forecaster added: “A cold northwesterly airstream will extend southeastwards across the warning areas on Thursday bringing occasional snow showers. Around 2 cm of snow is possible even to low levels in places. 5-10 cm is possible on high ground above about 200 m.”
