INVESTIGATIONS are continuing after a 15-year-old girl died from a severe allergic reaction after eating at a takeaway meal.

Megan Lee, a student at St Christopher’s CE High School in Accrington, died on New Year’s Day, two days after being admitted to hospital after eating food from a ‘Hyndburn area’ takeaway.

Lancashire County Council’s Trading Standards Department confirmed it is working with police as enquiries are carried out.

Heartfelt tributes have been paid to the teenager on the Lancashire Telegraph’s website and Facebook page.

Lisa Vick said: “Thoughts are with Gemma and Adam (Megan’s parents) at this sad time. Beautiful girl from a very loving family.”

Deborah Martin wrote: “Heartbreaking. Sincere condolences to her family and friends. Another life taken far too soon.”

One reader wrote: “I have a daughter of a similar age. I cannot comprehend the pain her parents must be going through.

“I hope you find the strength to get through this.”

Another said: “So sad to see a young, talented child go so early. Thoughts are with you and your family RIP.”

Another wrote: “RIP little girl. Hope God makes everything easy for your family in this hard time.”

In a statement released on Thursday, Megan’s parents said they were ‘shattered’ at the loss of their inspirational and beautiful daughter.

They said: “She immediately touched the hearts of everyone she ever met.

“Megan was the kindest most loving daughter and sister, who always wore the most beautiful and infectious smile.”

A spokesman for the county council, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the girl’s family and friends.”

A spokesman for the Food Standards Agency said: “The FSA has been notified of this very serious incident and has offered guidance to Lancashire County Council as it carries out enquiries with the food business concerned.”

Police said a post mortem examination to establish the cause of her death has taken place but the full results will not be known for some time.
