BLACKBURN Rovers boss Owen Coyle believes the club’s new Football Director Paul Senior can be a go-between in helping him add to his squad in the January transfer window.

Rovers appointed Senior, who has previously worked at Sheffield Wednesday and Crystal Palace, to the newly-created post yesterday.

And Coyle is hopeful the move can lead to clearer communication between him and Rovers owners Venky’s.

“My understanding of the remit of Paul coming is that he will be that day to day point of contact for myself to try and help in us adding to the squad,” said Coyle.

“If the right players are available, or go the other way, then Paul is in position to deal with that.

“He will be based at the club on a daily basis and I think that’s important that we have that level of contact that can help us do that.

“I have always said from day one it is important that on a day-to-day basis to have that point of contact and whether it’s a chief executive, technical director, director of football or football director, whatever you want to call it, it’s there as a source to help move this club on.

“If you have got someone that can be able to make these decisions quickly then I think that will help everyone.”

Senior joined the club having previously worked in similar roles with Sheffield Wednesday, where he was appointed in May 2015, as well as Charlton, Tottenham and Crystal Palace.

Rovers say Senior, who has almost 30 years of experience in the football industry, will work closely with Coyle, as well as director Mike Cheston to “enhance operations both on and off the pitch”.

With the transfer window now open until January 31, Coyle hopes that Senior’s arrival will help clarify what is available to spend on new signings.

The Rovers boss added: “I plan to sit down with Paul at length in the next couple of days.

“I really want to know what I have available, what have we got, what have we not got, do we need to move this or that, and have a clear understanding and a clear picture.

“I think that can help everyone at this football club move forward.

“Rather than guesswork, let’s get something nailed down and know what we’ve got and use that to the best of our ability to bring quality players to Blackburn Rovers.

“Having that point of contact is invaluable, not only for me but everyone at the football club.”

Coyle is also hopeful that Senior’s role can help with the speed in which Rovers are able to move when making decisions.

“It’s been said to me before who do I speak to about this and that?” Coyle said about the Ewood decision-making process.

“Hopefully people understand this is a way of trying to move this club forward.

“Time always tells, but for me in a football department, it’s important we have that daily point of contact and try and get things moving quickly.

“Sometimes you need a very quick answer and hopefully Paul will be able to help with that.”
