THE iconic Flying Scotsman was the venue for a special edition of Deal or No Deal which was filmed aboard a train line in East Lancashire.

The long-running TV game show went on the road or, in this case, the tracks, in a special edition ahead of it being taken off the screens.

The show’s host Noel Edmonds, the infamous phone, 22 red boxes and the silent but enigmatic ‘banker’ hopped on board the beloved steam engine on the East Lancashire Railway, which has its northern terminus in Rawtenstall and stations in Summerseat, Irwell Vale, Ramsbottom and Bury.

Viewers saw contestant Jason Southwell go full steam ahead for his game on the nation’s favourite locomotive, playing for a jackpot of £250,000 inside the historic carriage as the train made its way along the line.

Jasoon eventually dealt for £10,000 – a good decision as he had just £100 in his box.

The episode, which aired yesterday, is part of a series of Deal or No Deal On Tour games.

The Channel 4 show will be also be coming from the top of Blackpool Tower, aboard a Boeing 737, and inside the Eden Project, among others as it draws to a close.

Noel, who has hosted almost 3,000 episodes, said: “These shows are some of the most ambitious ever attempted on television – the sky has quite literally been the limit for this incredibly special series.

“It has been an absolute joy and honour to meet Deal’s loyal fans whilst out on the road at this hugely exciting time.”

The Flying Scotsman, which was retired from service in 1963, was restored for York’s National Railway Museum by Riley and Son Ltd in a 10-year project that cost £4.2million.

Thousands of train enthusiasts flocked to the line last January to share in a moment of rail history when the locomotive, which the first steam locomotive to be officially authenticated at reaching 100 miles per hour, returned to the tracks.

Earlier this year, Channel 4 announced that Deal Or No Deal was being cancelled, with this special one-off tour acting as a farewell.
