POLICE in Blackburn held a road safety operation in the town centre which led to an arrest for drink driving and taxis taken off the roads.
The exercise, on Friday evening, was led by town centre police in conjunction with Blackburn with Darwen council civil enforcement officers and their licencing team .
One driver was arrested for drink driving, no licence and no insurance and their vehicle was impounded.
Another driver was reported for summons for having three children without child seats.
Officers ensured the children were taken home safely and the driver later returned for their car.
39 taxis were examined of which four immediately had their permission to operate suspended for bald tyres and seven taxis given seven-day notices for minor issues.
Six cars were given penalty notices for driving in bus lanes and there were nine tickets issued for various parking offences with other given warnings.
A police spokesman, said: "A very successful evening with safety our number one priority.
"We are determined to keep our roads safe and we will be continuing to run similar operations in the following months in the town centre."
