CHRISTMAS was in full swing in Blackburn as Roe Lee Park’s Winter Wonderland fair took place.

Hundreds of people gathered at the park to enjoy the event, now in its fourth year.

Youngsters enjoyed playing in a giant inflatable snow globe, saw Father Christmas in his grotto and had a go on fairground rides.

Music fans were entertained by a variety of singers and bands, and families took to the dry ice rink.

Children were given donkey rides around the park while parents scoured the stalls and table top sales.

The event was organised by the Friends of Roe Lee Park group, volunteers who regularly meet to keep the park in top condition.

Jason Walker, one of the organisers, said the planning and work to get the fair in place is worth effort.

He said: “It looked fantastic and it was great to see lots of people. The other guys behind this have done a cracking job.

“It’s great to make something of the park every year and it’s been getting bigger and bigger every time we’ve done it.”

Kirsty Veevers, from Shadsworth, said the fair brought a festive feel to the area.

She said: “It’s great, Christmas comes early with the fair being on, the kids love it and it helps them get excited.

“It’s a great success.”

Her son, Kieran, nine, said: “I liked the ice skating, I didn’t fall over.

“I like the fair it’s very good.”

Street acts also performed in the park and there was a variety of hot and cold refreshments available.

Emma Stanley, from Ewood, said this was the first time she had gone to the fair and was impressed.

She said: “It’s nice to do something a bit different, it wasn’t like other Christmas fairs.”

Cllr Phil Riley , who represents the area on Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “Jason and the volunteers deserve huge credit for creating a fantastic fair which is enjoyed by many.”
