MOTORISTS were given a graphic reminder of the dangers of drink and drug driving at an event outside Blackburn Cathedral.
Lancashire Police, which is supporting the Lancashire Telegraph’s ‘Stop the Madness’ campaign, launched its annual December drink-driving crackdown yesterday but warned they are targetting dangerous drivers all year round.
Officers were joined by Lancashire County Council’s Wasted Lives team and representatives from the fire service. A car from a fatal road traffic collision, in which 18-year-old Matthew Alston died the morning after drinking alcohol, was on display to show the devastating impact it can have.
Insp Andy Trotter said last December, 3,065 drink drive tests were carried out across the county with 118 people failing the test and four refusing to provide a specimen.
