The court heard the attack happened in full view of the defendant’s six-year-old son.

Paul Brookwell, prosecuting, said the incident happened at around 1pm on June 19 at the the property the couple shared in Blackburn Road, Haslingden.

The court heard Marcroft, who runs car boot sales and is planning to move to Hapton, and Mr Halstead had been in a “volatile” relationship for over five years.

Mr Brookwell said: “It came to a point because of that he decided to leave. He packed up his bags and rang a friend for a lift. He woke up about 12pm and made the call. She got up at 1pm and realised he was leaving because she could see he had packed his bags.

“She lost her temper, threw his bags around, threw his X-Box and suitcase out of the house, and was shouting at him to get out of the house.”

The court heard Marcroft then threw tea at Mr Halstead, before jumping on his back and biting him on the head and neck. She then instructed her son to stop the victim phoning the police.

Anthony Parkinson, defending, said Marcroft suffers with insomnia following a road traffic accident when she was 15 and takes amphetamines and dieting pills.

The court heard Marcroft, who pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm, was given a caution for battery in 2014 against the same victim after she threw an ashtray at him.

Marcroft, of Blackburn Road, Haslingden, was given a 12-month community order with a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement and a two-month curfew.
