The Shorrock Lane school, which has 205 pupils on its roll, has values of kindness, teamwork, ambition, respect and friendship at its heart, according to lead inspector Sue Eastwood.

Headteacher Sue Mellor said they are “delighted” with the report and “feel very excited about the future”.

In her report, Ms Eastwood praised the determination of the headteacher, other senior leaders and the governing body to raise standards.

She said: “Their focus, vision and hard work have led the way so that, together with staff, they provide good opportunities for pupils to achieve and develop as well-rounded individuals. Senior leaders and the governing body have worked hard to improve the way pupils are assessed, and how the information is used in the classroom to maximise learning.”

“The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum that engages pupils and contributes to their enjoyment of learning. PE, art and music are strengths and pupils make particularly good progress in these subjects.

“There have been significant improvements in the quality of teaching and learning throughout the school and it is now consistently good.

“The teaching is characterised by warm relationships between staff and pupils and well-organised lessons.”

She added to further improve the school teachers should challenge pupils and encourage them to work independently.

Mrs Mellor said: “Everyone at Meadowhead Infants is delighted with the report.

“We are all so proud of our school and the happy, nurturing learning environment we have created.

“Our successes are due to the determination and hard work of staff, governors and children and the support of parents and carers. We feel excited about our future.”
