In Colne town centre Halloween events included a fair, facepainting and stalls with people dressed as witches and zombies and shops kitted out to fit in with the ghostly theme.

In Witton Park in Blackburn youngsters got to carve pumpkins as part of the Room on the Broom family event which included craft activities, storytelling, creepy crawlies and Halloween refreshments.

In Sunnyhurst Woods, The Olde English Kiosk hosted an event with children dressed as witches, vampires and ghostly brides met by the ghost of Frankenstein.

Lindsey Chapman, who runs the Kiosk with her husband Paul, said they held it to raise money for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) in memory of Rebecca Duxbury who passed away in 2007 aged 13.

She said: “We do it every year because we knew Rebecca and her family.

“More than 80 people came down on Saturday night. We had party games, apple bobbing, a raffle and auction while the Friends of Sunnyhurst Woods did a ghost walk.

“It is always impressive to see what outfits people wear. It is a good way to raise money and celebrate Halloween.”

A family party was also held at Wellybobs Farm in Darwen and a scallywags spooktacular event at the Barlow in Edgworth.
