GAS technicians were called to a shop in Blackburn after a car crashed through the front window last night.

Fire crews from Blackburn were also called to the scene in Bentham Road by police at around 11pm.

Firefighters used a winch to drag the car out of the building to find the source of a gas leak which had been caused by the car hitting an internal fitting.

Technicians were called and the leak was shut down.

There were no casualties.

A Lancashire Fire spokesman said: "Two fire engines and crews from Blackburn responded to a call from the police reporting that a car had crashed into a shop window and that there was a smell of gas.

"There were no casualties to rescue and firefighters used a winch to drag the car out of the building in order to gain access to the interior to locate the gas leak."
