A GIRL was 'thrown into the air' after being hit by a car in Huncoat this morning.

Police and paramedics were called to Burnley Road, close to the junction with Seathwaite Way, after the girl was hit by a yellow Fiat Punto.

Inspector John Fryer of Blackburn Police said: "The girl was thrown into the air and landed on the floor.

"She suffered minor head injuries and was being treated by the ambulance service at the scene.

"The car suffered serious damage to its front, but there is currently no detail on the driver."

Police have not released the age of the girl but said she was taken to Manchester Children's Hospital.

A police spokesman said initial scans showed she suffered bumps and bruises.

The North West Ambulance Service said a second person was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital but did not release any further details.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at around 6:30am to Burnley Road in Huncoat to reports of a collision between a car and a girl.

"The girl was taken to Manchester Children's Hospital but her injuries are not thought to be serious.

"The car involved was a yellow Fiat Punto.

"No arrests have been made."

A North West Ambulance spokesman said: "We received a call at 6:25am to attend a road traffic collision at Burnley Road, Huncoat - close to the junction with Seathwaite Way.

"We have taken a patient to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. They have suffered head injuries.

"We have also taken another patient to Royal Blackburn Hospital."

Burnley Road has now been reopened.
