PENDLE’S tourism industry is set to receive a massive boost with a redesigned website dedicated to the area.

Tourism is currently worth around £106million to Pendle each year and the website is aimed at developing the area’s growing visitor economy.

The site was re-launched this week to promote Pendle’s hot spots such as Pendle Sculpture Trail, Foulridge Canal Cruises and Bancroft Mill.

Pendle Borough councillor Eileen Ansar welcomed the revamped website.

“Pendle’s tourism website www.visitpendle.com has had a major re-design to attract more visitors to our area,” said Coun Ansar, who is the borough’s s leader for tourism.

“Visitpendle.com will make it easier for people to plan visits and see what our stunning area has to offer.

“It’s also a fantastic website for local people to use, who are lucky enough to live in beautiful Pendle,” she added.

Tourism businesses and other delegates at Pendle’s tourism conference attended the re-launch of the site at the Ace Centre in Nelson and were impressed with what they saw during the course of the day.

Tourism officer Mike Williams said: “The improved website fits into the theme for this year’s conference: Going for Gold, inspired by Pendle’s double gold medallist Steven Burke.

“The focus of the conference was on aiming high, with speakers from top tourism businesses sharing advice on how they started and developed their successful businesses.”

The conference also gave tourism businesses the chance to discuss important tourism themes such as how cultural tourism can help the visitor economy both regionally and locally.

Andrew Palmer, from Creative Tourist, and Paul Hartley and Kerry Morrison from local arts partnership In-Situ, led discussions on how cultural tourism has huge potential to boost the visitor economy, regionally and locally.
