ELLIOTT Bennett has declared himself fit and available for selection for Blackburn Rovers’ clash with Ipswich Town tomorrow.

But the winger admits he may have to wait for his chance.

Bennett has proved he is over the hamstring injury he sustained in the opening day defeat to his former club Norwich City.

He came off the bench in the 1-0 loss at Birmingham City before the international break and then played the full 90 minutes for Rovers Under-23s in their 1-0 Checkatrade Trophy defeat at Carlisle United.

But Bennett, who also featured in a behind-closed-doors clash with Accrington Stanley on Tuesday, said: “The players playing out wide have been doing well.

“Craig (Conway) has been brilliant and so has Marshy (Ben Marshall). They’ve got the shirts at the minute.

“All you can do is get minutes under your belt, show the gaffer you’re back to full fitness, and if you get a chance to play do well.

“You’ve got to push every day in training and put little seeds into the manager’s mind that, if one of the wide players or one of the players in whichever position is not doing well, we’ve got players champing at the bit and ready to step in.

“As soon I got out of the treatment room I wanted to play. All I want to do is play football. But I understand it doesn’t work like that. I’m ready now, available for selection, and I’ll be doing all I can in training to put something into the manager’s mind.”

Rovers face two home games in four days with Nottingham Forest visiting on Tuesday.

And Bennett added: “If we can get back-to-back wins it will really get us going again.”
