X FACTOR stars are set to headline the Darwen Christmas light switch-on this year.

Reggie ’n’ Bollie, who finished runners-up in the talent show last year, will be lighting up the town next month with lots more entertainment still to be confirmed.

Nickelodeon stars the Paw Patrol will also be putting in an appearance for youngsters to enjoy.

Cllr Brian Taylor, leader of Darwen Town Council, said he hopes the younger generation especially will enjoy the event.

He said: “I think it will be a superb event, Christmas is such a happy occasion and the switch-on always creates a brilliant atmosphere.

“I think the acts this year will attract the younger generation especially and I hope that they will feel proud of their town when they go to it.

“It’s very important that we get the youngsters involved in events in the town.

“It’s lovely to have everyone together in the town centre celebrating the festive period and I am looking forward to the show.”

The event will be taking place on Saturday, November 19, from 4pm to 8pm in the Market Square.

The news comes after it was announced that Britain’s Got Talent stars Boogie Storm would be switching on the lights in Blackburn.

Last year Ghanaian duo Reggie ’n’ Bollie made it all the way to the judges houses in the X Factor where they were mentored by Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and were seen as a shock choice for the live shows.

They were the first duo to make the live final since Same Difference in 2007 and during the final they duetted with Fuse ODG and Craig David.

Eventually the pair lost out to Louisa Johnson but signed a record deal with Syco Music at the beginning of the year.

New animation the Paw Patrol follows a boy named Ryder who leads a pack of rescue dogs, each with special powers, on missions to protect the community of Adventure Bay.

Cllr John Roberts, chairman of the Darwen Town Centre Partnership Board, said it was a popular show with his grandchildren and will go down well.

He said: “It should be a really great event and so far we have had loads of interest particularly from families with young children who are excited that they will get chance to meet Paw Patrol.”
