A 15-YEAR-OLD girl has been airlifted to hospital after falling from her horse.

Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team were called out to the incident on the hills over the Accrington Bypass, just east of Mitchell's House Reservoirs, at 7pm last night.

The alarm had been raised by the girl's friends who called the ambulance service. They subsequently requested help from the mountain rescue team.

Around 15 rescue team volunteers attended and gave the girl treatment before putting her on to a stretcher.

She was then put into a coast guard search and rescue helicopter from Humberside and airlifted to Alder Hey Children's Hospital. The girl's mum accompanied her on the journey.

The teenager, who is believed to be from Rising Bridge, remains in hospital this morning.

A search and rescue team spokesman said the girl was conscious and breathing at the accident scene.
