A 25-YEAR-OLD man attacked his partner as she had their baby in her arms because she had switched the kitchen light off while he was in there.

Blackburn magistrates heard the assault came exactly a month after another attack by Thomas Henry Clough.

Clough, 25, of Hermitage Street, Rishton, pleaded guilty to two charges of assaulting Samantha Thornley. He was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Eddie Harrison, prosecuting, said the couple had been in a relationship for four years and she said he had never previously been violent towards her.

On the first occasion she says there was an argument over 'something and nothing' and he grabbed her and pushed her into an electricity cupboard. He then grabbed her around the neck.

The second incident happened at 8.15am after she switched the kitchen light off while he was still in the room.

"He was annoyed and not satisfied that it was an accident," said Mr Harrison. "She was holding the baby and a four-year-old child was also in the room when he pushed his forehead into her face. She tried to push him off and he punched her repeatedly on the thigh leaving her with several bruises."

Scott Parker, defending, said the two incidents, a month apart, were the only instances of violence throughout the relationship.
